JOB RECRUITMENT SCAM
We have recently become aware of fraudulent activity involving individuals impersonating Steel & Tube and offering false employment opportunities.
Employment scammers often pose as legitimate recruiters, employers, recruitment consultants or job placement firms, advertising false job opportunities through email, text messages and WhatsApp messages. The scammer's objective is to deceive job seekers into giving away their money, bank account details or disclosing other private information to use for criminal purposes.
Steel & Tube uses its official social media pages to share stories about our people and update followers on opportunities. Our careers page on the official website is always up to date with current job vacancies.
Please be advised that Steel & Tube do not communicate with candidates via WhatsApp or request payments of any kind at any stage of the recruitment process.
Warning signs of potential recruitment scams:
- Too-good-to-be-true offers: Be wary of promises of quick, easy money or high returns with minimal effort. Genuine job offers require commitment and effort.
- Rushed Hiring Process: The hiring process feels rushed or informal, with no interviews or discussions about your qualifications, experience, or references.
- Impersonation: Scammers pose as Steel & Tube consultants on social media or job boards. Watch for incomplete profiles, suspicious photos, inaccurate use of our logo, spelling or grammatical mistakes, or missing contact details.
- Email authenticity. Legitimate companies usually have email domains match their web domain (e.g. name.surname@steelandtube.co.nz).
- Requests for Personal Information: Scammers might ask for sensitive details such as your passport, tax file number, or bank account details.
- Upfront Payment Requests: Legitimate employers will never ask for money upfront. Scammers may ask for fees for background checks, job training, or visa checks.
To protect yourself from employment scams:
- Research: Research the company and individuals involved. Our job vacancies are published on our official Steel & Tube careers pages here and may also appear on trusted platforms such as seek.co.nz.
- Protect Personal Information: Never share sensitive personal information until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the company and have a formal job offer.
- Contact Directly: If you're unsure, make direct contact with the company using official contact details from their website. Be careful not to use any contact details provided in the suspicious job advertisement or email.
- Trust Your Instincts: If something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. Listen to your gut feeling.
Stay vigilant, verify all opportunities, and take care when sharing personal information.
